Ever since reading Silent Spring in about 1970, I have been hooked on science and the environment. My past includes 20 years in newspaper management with several years as the publisher of a 34,000 daily paper in the Midwest. It includes a BS degree in Industrial Management. While still at the newspaper, I went on to graduate studies at Purdue University which led to an Master’s degree in Conservation of Natural Resources. With this combined educational background, I was better able to direct news and editorial coverage of the paper, particularly as it related to environmental issues that were on the national stage in the decade of the 70′s. When the newspaper was sold in 1981, I returned to Purdue for more science studies which led to a second Master’s degree, this one in aquatic toxicology, and then on to a Ph.D. in genetics finally completed in 1997.

This publication, Science Sunrise, will look at developments in all fields of science and how they might impact our society. It will look at issues in environmental science and how we are rapidly changing the natural world that has supported human beings from the beginning of life on Earth. There are serious decisions to be made and directions to be chosen. I hope to provide some light on possible paths ahead.
